NAUTICAL MILE ( nmi):

One minute of latitude; approximately 6076 feet - about 1/8 longer than the statute mile of 5280 feet.

The nautical mile is a unit of distance used in navigation and based on the length of one minute of arc taken along a circle defined by the intersection of the surface of the Earth and any plane that passes through the center of the Earth. Note 1: Because the Earth is not a perfect sphere, various values have been assigned to the nautical mile. The value 1852 meters (6076.1 ft.) has been adopted internationally.
