Bruce Caron, Ph.D.

Bruce Caron is the founder and current excutive director of The New Media Studio.

Bruce completed his first GIS data visualization project in 1978 (using Harvard SYMAP) as a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. Trained as a social anthropologist and an urban cultural geographer, he has a wide-ranging academic background in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. He has more than five years of management experience, including a senior management position at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was the Director of Development for the College of Engineering in the 1980s. He recently served as the President of the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners, a NASA sponsored earth data and information association. He is skilled in a variety of multimedia authoring tools. He has taught at colleges and universities in Japan, and at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California. For ten years he was a contributing editor of the Kyoto Journal. He is the Chair of the DLESE Data Access Working Group (DAWG). He is a member of the Policy Committee for the NSDL.
